While Southwestern's win against Carlinville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Piasa Birds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Cavaliers on Wednesday. The Piasa Birds haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Colton Huber tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Southwestern let Blake Rimbey and Johnny Kunz run wild. Rimbey went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Kunz went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Southwestern's victory bumped their record up to 11-18. As for Carlinville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Southwestern will challenge Carrollton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Piasa Birds are facing the Hawks at the right time seeing as the Hawks are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Carlinville, they will square off against Staunton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
