The Southwood Knights will challenge the Eastbrook Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
On Monday, Southwood made easy work of Bluffton and carried off a 16-6 win. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
Natalie Sutphin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Thomas, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. Izzy Ashba was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Southwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Eastbrook never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past Northfield 11-0. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Gracie Elliott was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Legg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.
The win made it two in a row for Eastbrook and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Southwood, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Southwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Eastbrook, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Southwood continue to outrun the ball?
