Baseball Recap: Sardis Drops Highest Score of Season Against Crossville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sardis). They never let Crossville get on the board and left with a 24-0 win on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Gavin Holland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Holland was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Owen Gazaway looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Sardis let Kaden Walters and Levi Martin run wild. Walters went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one double, while Martin scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Martin a new career-high in doubles (two). Garrett Holland was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Sardis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sardis' victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-13. As for Crossville, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Sardis and Crossville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. The Lions (ranked 210th) will meet Boaz (ranked 68th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Crossville will square off against Douglas at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (430 vs. 200).
