Basketball Recap: Western Brown Falls Despite Big Games from J Jenike and Madilyn Ruby

Western Brown won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They lost 46-24 to the Fayetteville-Perry Rockets. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 347th, while the Rockets are ranked 86th).

Madilyn Ruby and J Jenike certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Ruby posted six points and five steals, while Jenike had nine points.

Even though they lost, Western Brown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Leading Fayetteville-Perry to victory were Aubrey Barber and Ryley Kleemeyer. Barber put up 11 points and seven steals, while Kleemeyer dropped a double-double on ten points and 23 rebounds. Those seven steals gave Barber a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cara Rummel, who earned nine points and six boards.

Western Brown's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5. As for Fayetteville-Perry, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Brown will host Batavia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Western Brown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. As for Fayetteville-Perry, they will square off against Summit Country Day at 12:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
