Football Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Allen

Allen took a 36-point defeat the last time they faced off against Regent Prep, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs skirted past Regent Prep 51-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since October 4, 2024.

Allen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quinton Box led the charge by rushing for 153 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 100 yards and one TD. Box didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, made eight total tackles, and defended one pass. Noah Bray was another major influence, as he rushed for 121 yards and ran in a TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Allen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 403 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Allen's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out Brody Smith four times. Nate Boeck was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.

Despite the loss, Regent Prep still got an impressive performance from Smith, who threw for 425 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 58 yards and one score on only eight carries. Smith's passing game has become a key predictor of Regent Prep's success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Regent Prep's leading receiver Bryceton Huerta was Smith's top target yet again, picking up 77 receiving yards and one TD.

The win (which was Allen's third in a row) raised their record to 4-3. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.7 points over those games. As for Regent Prep, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Allen will venture away from home to face off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Mustangs are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Regent Prep, they will head out on the road to take on Mounds at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
