Baseball Game Preview: Torrance Tartars vs. West Warriors

For the second straight game, Torrance will face off against West. The Tartars will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Warriors at 3:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Torrance's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while West has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

Torrance barely beat West the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tartars' pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Tartars have posted against the Warriors since March 5, 2022.

Torrance got a great performance from Sam Cruz as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Cruz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on River Martinez, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Faamasino, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Torrance is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for West, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-16.

Torrance's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Tartars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game.
