Softball Recap: Athens Drops Season-High Score on Riverton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Athens). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Riverton Hawks a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won three in a row.

Aubrey Crispen 2027 made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Crispen 2027 was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Athens got a massive performance out of Kenzie Szoke 2026, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base was Szoke 2026's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Reilen Reynolds 2027, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Athens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

The victory got Athens back to even at 5-5. As for Riverton, their loss was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Looking ahead, Athens will welcome Pleasant Plains at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Riverton, they will venture away from home to challenge North Mac at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
