Volleyball Recap: Kenai Central Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Homer

Kenai Central faced Homer in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Kardinals fell just short of the Mariners by a score of 2-1. The Kardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mariners earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Sophie Tapley paced Kenai Central's offense, picking up 11 kills. Tapley got some help from Gracee Every and her 24 assists. Ellsi Miller and Savannah Hershberger kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

Homer found their leader in sophomore Piper Fuchs, who had 13 digs and four assists. Fuchs is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.

The loss snapped Kenai Central's winning streak at three matches and leaves them with a 32-11-5 record. As for Homer, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 24-15-3.

Looking ahead, Kenai Central will square off against Nikiski at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Homer will be paying especially close attention to the Kardinals' match: after the Kardinals face off against the Bulldogs, they'll take on Homer again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
