Basketball Recap: Horizon Find Success

Wekiva came into Friday's game looking for another win against Horizon, but Amaya Mitchell wouldn't allow it. The Horizon Hawks came out on top against the Wekiva Mustangs by a score of 51-44 on Friday thanks in part to Mitchell, who went 10 of 16 on her way to 23 points and four steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.

Another player making a difference was Zoe Corjay, who posted eight points in addition to seven steals and six assists. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jakayla Johnson, who earned nine points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiana Washington, who had eight points and eight boards.

Horizon's record is now 12-5. As for Wekiva, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Horizon will take on Oak Ridge in a tournament on Monday. One thing working in Oak Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups. As for Wekiva, they will face off against West Orange at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wekiva is facing West Orange at the right time seeing as West Orange is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
