Basketball Recap: Wheatley Skates Past Washington with Ease

Wheatley hadn't done well against Washington recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wheatley Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Washington Eagles 82-55. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Defeat or not, Washington got some senior leadership from Samuel Johnson and Robert Jones. Johnson dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Jones posted 14 points. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games he's played.

Wheatley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 89.5 points per game. As for Washington, the loss snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 20-4 record.

Wheatley and Washington should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Wheatley will square off against Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy for Young Men at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 702 places (263 vs. 965). Wheatley is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. Similarly, Washington (ranked 203rd) will meet North Forest (ranked 1261st) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
