Volleyball Recap: Northwestern Comes Up Short

If Northwestern was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Kokomo on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers lost 3-0 to the Maconaquah Braves on Thursday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Northwestern took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-21, 25-22.

Their offense was headlined by Eliana Carlson and Ava Schultz, who picked up five kills apiece. They got some help from Nahla Smith and her 16 assists. Carlson was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Maconaquah was led to victory by Averie Maiben and Aubrey Kaiser. Maiben had ten digs and nine assists, while Kaiser had eight digs and one assist.

Northwestern's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Maconaquah, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-2.

Coming up, Northwestern will face off against Delphi Community at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Maconaquah, they will be taking part in a tournament against Lafayette Central Catholic at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
