Baseball Recap: Marquette Catholic Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Marquette Catholic barely beat Granite City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Explorers blew past the Warriors 10-4 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Explorers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Joe Stephan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last two matches. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Keller Jacobs was excellent, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Will Fahnestock, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Marquette Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granite City only posted an OBP of .296.

Marquette Catholic's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Granite City, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Marquette Catholic will take on Collinsville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Granite City, they will square off against Triad at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
