Baseball Recap: Cape Fear Christian Academy Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Cape Fear Christian Academy lost against Crossroads Christian last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Eagles took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colts. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly four runs.

Taylor Smith put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. He has become a key player for Cape Fear Christian Academy: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Fisher Stancil, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Mason Gregory was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Cape Fear Christian Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Crossroads Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Cape Fear Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Crossroads Christian, they will challenge Vance County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Colts are facing the Vipers at the right time seeing as the Vipers are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
