Basketball Recap: San Juan Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact San Juan can now relate to. They took a 77-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Draper APA Eagles on Saturday. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2020.

Despite the loss, San Juan still got an impressive performance from Tripp Palmer, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Palmer a new career-high in steals (four). Another player making a difference was Cole Duke, who posted 15 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, San Juan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Urban Baldwin was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-13 en route to 28 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists for Draper APA. Baldwin's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Anthony Burris was another key player, putting up 16 points and seven boards.

San Juan's loss dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Draper APA, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

San Juan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Draper APA, they will square off against South Sevier at 12:50 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Draper APA's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games.
