Baseball Game Preview: Largo Packers vs. Sickles Gryphons

Largo is 0-3 against Sickles since May of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Packers will take on the Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. Largo's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Sickles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Friday, Largo earned a 5-2 win over Shorecrest Prep. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Packers.

Bloomingdale typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Sickles proved too difficult a challenge. They never let the Bulls get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Jake Taylor made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Taylor wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emilio Salgado, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Sickles has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Largo, they pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Largo might still be hurting after the 16-6 defeat they got from Sickles in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Packers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
