Basketball Recap: Southwest Virginia Academy Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Southwest Virginia Academy won the last time they faced Boys' Home and things went their way on Thursday too. The Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors were the clear victor by a 68-44 margin over the Boys' Home Hilltoppers. The Conquerors pushed the score to 54-29 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hilltoppers cut but never quite recovered from.

Southwest Virginia Academy had a senior duo take command as Nehemiah Goad went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds and Mason Newman went 6 of 9 on his way to 16 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Newman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Bishop, who posted 13 points along with five boards and four steals.

Southwest Virginia Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Boys' Home, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.

Southwest Virginia Academy will square off against Spirit HomeSchool at 12:45 p.m. on February 1st. As for Boys' Home, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-46 defeat against Appalachian Christian School on the 25th.
