Volleyball Recap: Imlay City Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Brighton

Imlay City faced Brighton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Spartans took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.

Leading Brighton to victory were Ruby Pennala and Brier Skelton. Pennala had nine digs and two aces, while Skelton had five assists. Those two aces gave Pennala a new career-high.

Imlay City's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Brighton, the win keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Imlay City and Brighton will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Spartans see the court they'll take on Brown City at 5:00 p.m. on September 3. As for Brighton, their break will end when they face Saline at 7:00 p.m. on September 4.
