Basketball Recap: Norland Takes a Loss

Norland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 36-31 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mater Academy Charter Lions. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while the Lions are ranked 163rd).

Mater Academy Charter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Riley Wilkerson led the charge by putting up 11 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Wilkerson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Osei, who posted three points along with 15 boards and three steals.

Norland's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Mater Academy Charter, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Norland will venture away from home to face off against Somerset Academy Central Miramar at 4:00 p.m. on January 14th. As for Mater Academy Charter, they will head out to challenge Divine Savior Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mater Academy Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season.
