Basketball Recap: Wayne Takes a Loss

Wayne was the 74-39 winner over Boone Central when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Wayne Blue Devils fell just short of the Boone Central Cardinals by a score of 58-56 on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), the Blue Devils still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Wayne still got an impressive performance from Colson Nelsen, who went 9 of 18 to rack up 27 points. Those 27 points gave Nelsen a new career-high. Kaden Keller was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wayne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Boone Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne will host Wahoo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wahoo will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Wayne surely won't give up without a fight. As for Boone Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Centura at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Boone Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Centura likes a good challenge.
