Melrose is 7-2 against Kirby since December of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Melrose Golden Wildcats will square off against the Kirby Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Melrose has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 10.

Last Friday, Melrose was beaten by Ridgeway 67-40. While losing is never fun, the Golden Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while the Roadrunners are ranked 103rd).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Kirby duked it out with Hamilton on Friday. Kirby put the hurt on Hamilton with a sharp 72-51 win. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Kirby is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points over those games. As for Melrose, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.

Melrose came up short against Kirby when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 65-59. Can Melrose avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
