Preview: Hamilton Bobcats vs. Vasquez Mustangs
Hamilton is 1-0 against Vasquez since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hamilton Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Vasquez Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses for Hamilton and 17 for Vasquez dating back to last season.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 56-6, which was the final score in Hamilton's tilt against Whittier Christian on Friday. That's two games in a row now that Hamilton has lost by exactly 50 points.
Despite the loss, Hamilton got a solid performance out of William Hamlett, who rushed for 182 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also tried their best in the loss by holding Whittier Christian to a paltry 244 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Hamilton's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Angel Medina and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Vasquez suffered a rough 34-12 defeat at the hands of Desert Christian Academy on Friday.
Despite the loss, Vasquez had strong showings from Landon Brock, who threw for 281 yards and a touchdown, and Anthony Escobedo, who picked up 153 receiving yards and a touchdown. Escobedo was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 69 yards.
The losses dropped both teams to an identical 0-8.
Hamilton strolled past Vasquez in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a score of 40-22. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hamilton since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
