Basketball Recap: Cozad's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

On Saturday, Cozad faced Ogallala in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Cozad Haymakers managed a 66-61 victory over the Ogallala Indians. This was a revenge game for the Haymakers: when they faced off against the Indians back in January, they had to take a 65-63 loss.

It was another big night for Noah Shoemaker, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards. Chayden Hoffmaster was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.

The win (which was Cozad's eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Ogallala, they moved to 17-1 with that defeat, which also ended their 17-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cozad will challenge Holdrege at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cozad is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Holdrege a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Ogallala, they will face off against McCook at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ogallala knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 matches -- so hopefully McCook likes a good challenge.
