Basketball Game Preview: Mesquite Skeeters vs. Duncanville Panthers and Pantherettes

Mesquite hasn't had much luck against Duncanville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mesquite Skeeters will look to defend their home court against the Duncanville Panthers and Pantherettes at 8:00 p.m.

Mesquite is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 13, 2024 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Lancaster 81-52. While losing is never fun, the Skeeters can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 374th, while the Tigers are ranked 20th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Duncanville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with a 60-49 victory over Horn on Tuesday.

Duncanville's win came from a few key players Mesquite will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cam Smith, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Hunt Jr, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points and four steals.

Duncanville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Mesquite, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Mesquite couldn't quite finish off Duncanville in their previous meeting back in December of 2017 and fell 64-62. Can Mesquite avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
