Basketball Recap: Itawamba Agricultural Comes Up Short

Itawamba Agricultural saw some tournament action on Monday. They fell 66-56 to the Holly Springs Hawks. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Loss or not, Itawamba Agricultural got some senior leadership from Calon Shumpert and Keshun Wilson. Shumpert went 8-for-13 to rack up 20 points and five rebounds, while Wilson shot 43% from the field on his way to 14 points. That was a full 35.7% of the Indians' points, marking the third time in a row Shumpert has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malakii Casimier, who earned six points and eight boards.

Holly Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christopher Hale, who had 17 points and seven assists. Hale has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dawan Malone Jr, who put up 15 points.

Itawamba Agricultural now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Holly Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Itawamba Agricultural has already played their next game, a 47-43 defeat against Alcorn Central on the 25th. As for Holly Springs, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-52 victory against Amory on the 25th.
