2A-1 Region IV District 16 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Jake Ray and Ryan Andrade provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Robstown. The connection was good for 60 yards, the longest such play in 2A-1 Region IV District 16 this season.
Falfurrias moved up to 518 from 770 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bulls climbed the ranks as a result of a 57-14 win over John Paul II.
Odem's dynamic duo of Ray and Andrade proved tough for the Cottonpickers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Ray threw for 101 yards and two touchdowns and Andrade had 76 yards receiving. Aaron Naranjo helped Odem's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.
Luis Lopez was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 205 yards on 15 carries as San Diego bested Robstown. Teammate Eddie Garza added to the ground attack by rushing for 65 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Michael Lichtenberger and Lopez the Vaqueros have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Lichtenberger leads the league in passing with 399 yards, while Lopez has rushed for 926 yards this season. Odem's Andrade leads the league in receiving yards with 138 on nine catches.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region IV District 16 this week will be when Mathis takes on Falfurrias. The Pirates are currently in fifth, while Joe Rios's team is in second.
San Diego extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Santa Maria, 65-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
