Basketball Game Preview: Lely Trojans vs. Bonita Springs Bullsharks

The Lely Trojans will challenge the Bonita Springs Bullsharks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Lely is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Canterbury just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 50-39 to the Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Cougars are ranked 100th).

Despite the defeat, Lely had strong showings from Alysa Jada Vasquez, who posted 18 points, and Zashlie Andris, who scored 11 points. The dominant performance gave Vasquez a new career-high in points.

Meanwhile, Bonita Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 54-23 defeat at the hands of Estero. The Bullsharks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-8.

Lely's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-12. As for Bonita Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.

Everything came up roses for Lely against Bonita Springs when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 52-16 win. In that contest, Lely amassed a halftime lead of 37-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
