Baseball Recap: Lely Takes a Loss

Lely was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gateway Charter Griffins. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Griffins apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Aiden Karl made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Lely's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-16 when he doesn't). Alex Badillo-Torres was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Lely's defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Gateway Charter, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-15.

Lely wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-7 loss against Bonita Springs on the 7th. As for Gateway Charter, they have also already played their next game, a 22-2 defeat against Aubrey Rogers on the 7th.
