Baseball Recap: Highland Comes Up Short

Highland had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 16-9 to make it four. They fell just short of the Virginia Episcopal School Bishops by a score of 9-8. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bishops apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Quinn Peck was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Wright Broadhead, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.

As for Virginia Episcopal School, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Virginia Episcopal School's side, Campbell Howard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Howard has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Furio Carver was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jack Mitchell, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

While Highland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
