Baseball Recap: Sand Creek Gets the Win

Sand Creek proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Denver South Ravens 12-11. Sand Creek's win was all the more impressive since the Ravens were averaging only 3.86 runs allowed on the season.

Logan Rockhold made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avyn Walter, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Garcia-Cardona, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Sand Creek's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Denver South, they moved to 5-2 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Sand Creek and Denver South will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Scorpions are set to take on their familiar foe The Classical Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Denver South will square off against rival Denver East at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
