Volleyball Game Preview: Valparaiso Vikings vs. Boone Grove Wolves

The Valparaiso Vikings will take on the Boone Grove Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Valparaiso comes in on four and Boone Grove on 12.

Last Thursday, Valparaiso was able to grind out a solid victory over Portage, taking the game 3-1.

Valparaiso walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the fourth set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-15.

Valparaiso can attribute much of their success to Colton Allen, who had ten digs and one assist, and Lucas FioRito, who had 15 assists and five digs. That's the most digs FioRito has posted over his last six matchups. Mason Artherhults also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Boone Grove walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 3-0 victory on Tuesday.

Valparaiso better keep an eye on Levi McCoy. He was instrumental in Boone Grove's win, getting 15 digs and two assists.

Valparaiso's win bumped their record up to 17-10. As for Boone Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 21-3.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Valparaiso has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Boone Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Valparaiso came up short against Boone Grove when the teams last played back in April, falling 2-0. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
