Baseball Game Preview: Newton County Academy Generals vs. Laurel Christian Lions

For the second straight game, Newton County Academy will face off against Laurel Christian. Newton County Academy will challenge Laurel Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newton County Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Newton County Academy made easy work of Laurel Christian and carried off a 17-1 win. The Generals haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Cooper Thrash and Steven Duke were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Thrash tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Duke tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February. At bat, Thrash scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Duke went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two runs gave Thrash a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ty Thrash was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Newton County Academy is undefeated when Thrash posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Logan Ursy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Newton County Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Laurel Christian is on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3. As for Newton County Academy, their record now sits at 5-7.
