High school girls basketball: Best player in every state heading into 2025-26 season

MaxPreps continues its preview of the 2025-26 high school girls basketball season with a look at the best player in every state. 


From Alabama to Wyoming and every state in between, we searched coast-to-coast to find the best player from your state heading into the season.
Alabama
5-7 | Guard | Senior | Mississippi State
Averaged 23.0 points per game, 9.1 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 2.7 assists while earning Class 7A Player of the Year honors. She transferred to Albertville prior to last season and helped the Aggies to 24 more wins than the previous season.

Alaska
5-5 | Point guard | Sophomore | Uncommitted
Burst on the scene as a freshman and averaged 28.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 7.2 steals per night for the Golden Bears as they won the Class 4A consolation final.

Arizona

Averaged a team-high 21.5 points along with 7.1 rebounds and 3.9 steals per game last year as the Pumas went 15-13.

Arkansas
5-9 | Guard | Sophomore | Uncommitted
The Cardinals won a third-straight Class 4A title behind McCullough's 24 points in the title game. As a freshman, she averaged 21 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

California

After winning MaxPreps national honors as a freshman and sophomore, Smith enters this season widely regarded as the best player in the country regardless of class. She led the Knights to their first section title last season averaging 23.2 points, 8.1 assists, 4.5 steals and 2.8 rebounds.

Colorado

Averaged 26.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per night as the Ravens went 21-6 and reached the Class 6A semifinals. Already a 2,000-point scorer who is averaging 28.8 points in her career, she holds more than 30 offers from powerhouse programs like Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and UCLA.

Abby Casper, Northwest Catholic (West Hartford)

Enters the season 171 points from breaking the school scoring record. As a junior, averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per night as the Lions went 25-2 and won a third straight Class L title. In the championship game, she dropped 19 points and grabbed 19 boards.

Delaware

A first-team All-State nod, she averaged 18.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.9 assist as the Vikings went 14-8.

District of Columbia

Stuck with the Quakers for her final season after averaging 14.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game as Sidwell went 27-4 and finished No. 6 in the final MaxPreps Top 25. Started her prep career at McDonogh and was a two-time Baltimore Sun Player of the Year.

Florida

Helped the Ascenders to a Chipotle Nationals title last year with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the final. She grabbed gold with USA Basketball in 2023 and 2024. 

Georgia

The daughter of former NBA player Matt Harpring has game like dad as she averaged 32.3 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.5 steals per night for the War Eagles. The fourth-ranked player in the Class of 2026 looks to grab a second state title and is closing in on 3,000 career points.



Hawaii
Nihoa Dunn, Kamehameha Kapalama (Honolulu)
6-0 | Guard | Junior | Uncommitted
Led the Warriors a 29-3 record and Division 1 state title last season, averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 rebounds. She shot better than 55 percent from the field for the year and had 18 and 13 in Kamehameha's 40-34 win over rival 'Iolani in the title game.

Idaho
Brookslee Colvin, Coeur d'Alene
5-9 | Guard | Junior | Uncommitted
Picking up where her sister Teagan (UNLV) left off, Brookslee averaged 22.6 points per night with 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per night as the Vikings went 17-8 with an appearance in the Class 6A semis.

Illinois

A game-changing talent, she missed last season with an ACL injury but is back after transferring to Naperville. She averaged 17.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as a sophomore at Bolingbrook.

Indiana

A two-time USA Basketball pick, she averaged 11.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game as a junior playing behind behind sister Jaylah and Laila Adburraqib as the Bear swent 22-2.

Iowa

Led the Dragons in scoring with 18.0 points per night to go along with 3.7 rebounds and 3.5 steals as the 10th-ranked team finished 26-0 and repeated as Class 5A champions.

Kansas
6-3 | Forward | Junior | Uncommitted
Averaged 22.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game as the Falcons went 17-4 and reached the Class 6A quarterfinals. She earned first team 6A All-State honors.

Kentucky
5-7 | Guard | Senior | Indiana
A Miss Kentucky Basketball candidate, she averaged a team-high 12.2 points and a second-best 4.7 rebounds per game in her first season with the Rockets after coming from DuPont Manual.

Louisiana
6-5 | Center | Junior | Uncommitted
The Tigers went 21-4 and reached the Division III Non-Select state final as she averaged 21.8 points and 15.1 rebounds per game.

Maine
Maddie Provost, Lawrence (Fairfield)
5-8 | Guard | Senior | Holy Cross
Posted 20.9 points, 4.6 assists and 3.1 steals per night, helping the  Bulldogs reach the Class A semifinals. She was a Varsity Maine All-State pick in each of the past two seasons.

Maryland
6-2 | Guard | Junior | Uncommitted
The No. 2 player in her class averaged 18.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game as the Bulldogs went 25-8 with a state semifinal appearance.

Massachusetts
6-0 | Guard | Senior | Tulsa
In last season's Division 1 final, Scott dropped 31 points and the game-winner with 2.5 seconds left. The 31 tied her for fourth-most in a championship game. She averaged 20.7 points and 10.2 rebounds for the  Mountaineers.

Michigan
Sydney Savoury, Belleville
5-11 | Guard | Junior | Uncommitted
With more than 30 Division I offers, she is the real deal. She averaged 27.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.4 steals per night as the Tigers went 28-1 with a state title.

Minnesota
5-8 | Guard | Senior | Kentucky
When she isn't winning state titles in soccer or track and field, Greenway is setting sites on the state scoring record. She enters the season with 4,454 points after averaging 32.8 points per night as the Lions won another Class 2A basketball crown.

Mississippi
6-0 | Shooting guard | Sophomore | Uncommitted
The Class 4A Miss Basketball as a freshman, she helped the Braves to a 27-2 record and quarterfinal appearance. She averaged 22 points, 6.5 rebounds and is already piling up Division I college offers.

Missouri

One of a handful of rising stars who can dunk, she averaged 22.1 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 3.4 assists last year as the Panthers went 28-1 but fell in the district final.

Montana

Averaged a team-high 20.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.5 steals as the Rams went 19-4 and reached the Class B semifinals.

Nebraska 
The first-team All-State nod averaged 21.4 points and 11.9 rebounds as a sophomore as the Chieftains went 21-5 and reached the state playoffs. She dropped 20 or more points in 14 games with a high of 40.

Nevada
6-2 | Post | Junior | Uncommitted
She was a force for the Bulldogs' state title run as she averaged 17.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per night. She posted 18 points and 16 rebounds in a 61-54 state title win as Centennial went 23-2.

New Hampshire
5-10 | Guard | Senior | Bryant University
Reached 1,000 career points last season as the Lancers went 25-3 and were the Division 1 state runner-up. She averaged 19.3 point per night and led state in scoring last year. An all-state pick since her freshman season, she has a chance to break the school's all-time scoring record for boys and girls. 



New Jersey
6-1 | Guard | Senior | Indiana
The Caseys were a putback from knocking off Paul VI in the South Jersey Non-Public A final and Nyemchek will have them in a spot to advance this season. She averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals as Red Bank went 28-5.

New Mexico
5-8 | Guard | Senior | Pacific
Averaged 20.5 points per night along with 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.1 steals as the Bears went 22-8 and reached the Class 5A semifinals.

New York
6-4 | Post | Senior | UConn
A top 10 prospect in her class, she averaged 19.2 points, 17.9 rebounds, 5.5 blocked shots and 3.8 assists per game en route to CHSAA Player of the Year honors.

North Carolina
5-8 | Point guard | Senior | Wake Forest
A first-team All-State pick by the basketball coaches association, she averaged 28.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 5.3 steals as the Storm went 29-3 and finished runner-up in Class 3A.

North Dakota
6-3 | Guard | Senior | Oklahoma
Averaged 27.4 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game as the Magicians went 24-3 record with a third-place finish in the Class AA state tournament.

Ohio
6-2 | Forward | Senior | USC
The top-rated player in her class earned MaxPreps National Junior of the Year honors at Montverde Academy last season. She helped the Eagles to a 26-2 record while averaging 20.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.8 steals.

Oklahoma
5-9 | Guard | Senior | Nebraska
Averaged 14.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.4 steals per night as the Bulldogs went 30-2 last season with a Class 4A title.

Oregon

The Timberwovles shocked Clackamas in the Class 6A title game as Best scored 26 points. She averaged 15.1 points, 4.5 assists, 3.9 steals and 2.3 rebounds as Tualatin went 26-2.

Helped the Moose to a 27-3 record and fourth straight Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association title while averaging 21.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 3.1 blocks and 2.6 steals per game.

Rhode Island
Lauren Bousquet, Moses Brown (Providence)

5-10 | Forward | Senior | Marist University
Averaged 22.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game for the 21-4 Quakers. Bousquet dropped a monster stat line in the state championship game, scoring 42 with 23 rebounds in a 57-54 loss.

South Carolina

The Class 4A Player of the Year last season averaged 19.1 points and 9.6 rebounds for the Stallions as they reached the state semifinals. She surpassed 1,000 career points last season.

South Dakota

Averaged 22.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as the Red Raiders went 18-7 and appeared in the Class A state tournament

Tennessee

The Division II-A Miss Basketball last season, she averaged 22 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game as the Bruins went 24-4.

Texas

Led the Bears in scoring (20.0 per game), rebounding (7.9), steals (2.8) and assists (2.7), helping them reach the Conference 6A Division 1 regional final.

Averaged double figures in each of her previous three seasons and put up 19.6 points, 5.6 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 4.9 steals last year as the Panthers went 24-1 and reached the Class 5A final.

The Hurricanes were 16-6 and reached the Division 2 quarterfinals while the All-State pick averaged 24.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.6 steals and 4.3 assists per game.

Averaged 19.3 points and 6.8 rebounds last season at Sidwell Friends as the Quakers went 27-4 with a DC title and a No. 6 finish in the final MaxPreps Top 25.
