Baseball Recap: Como Park's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Como Park extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 5-5 in the process. They never let the Harding Knights get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 14 runs or more this season.

Brendan Avant was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Avant was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Como Park's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daniel Silverio, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eli Savolainen, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Como Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Harding, they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. The match marked the first time this season in which they were not able to get on the board.

On Harding's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Oxley, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Coming up, Como Park will head out on the road to square off against North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Harding, they will challenge St. Paul Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
