Volleyball Recap: Avon Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Avon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Irene/Wakonda Eagles with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Pirates, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-10, 25-20.

Rilyn Thury paced Avon's offense, picking up 18 kills. Thury got some help from Brielle Voigt and her 25 assists. Voigt also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Kaydence Metzger, racking up three apiece.

Avon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Irene/Wakonda, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will venture away from home to take on Colome at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Irene/Wakonda, they will challenge Hanson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
