Softball Game Preview: James Island Trojans vs. Timberland Wolves

The James Island Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the Timberland Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Timberland took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on James Island, who comes in off a win.

James Island was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They skirted past Fort Dorchester 4-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Mary Davis Hancock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, James Island saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Harper Billingsley, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Billingsley a new career-high.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Timberland and Woodland, and Woodland kept the tradition alive. The Wolves fell just short of the Wolverines by a score of 10-8 on Friday. The Wolves' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Kaleigh White led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Waters, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

James Island's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Timberland, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

James Island skirted past Timberland 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
