Softball Recap: Russell Broncos vs. Goodland Cowboys

Sadly, Russell is still looking for their first win of the season after five games. They suffered a rough 17-5 loss at the hands of the Goodland Cowboys on Tuesday. One positive for Russell, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

For Goodland's part, Allison Cure made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Cure has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Cure was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Emily Hoppe was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Phoebe Nachtigall was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, a run, and a double.

Russell's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Goodland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russell will square off against Ellinwood on Friday. As for Goodland, they will head out on the road to face off against Thomas More Prep-Marian at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
