Baseball Recap: Galax Comes Up Short

Galax extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They came up short against the George Wythe Maroons, falling 10-4. The Maroon Tide were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Maroons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for George Wythe, their record is now 2-6-1. They not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28, 2024 (when they won 16-6).

For George Wythe's part, Carson Stanley was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Stanley has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Cade Bralley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Cayden Bement, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coming up, Galax will host Carroll County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for George Wythe, they will head out to take on Giles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.27 runs per game on average), something the Maroons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
