Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Elizabeth Byington and Emma Miller Lead Volunteer to Victory

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Ridge, Volunteer was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Sullivan East Patriots 58-36. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won five in a row.

Volunteer was led to victory by Emma Miller and Elizabeth Byington. Miller posted 24 points, while Byington dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards. Byington has become a key player for the Falcons: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Emilee Mailloux, who put up eight points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Volunteer's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Sullivan East, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Coincidentally, Volunteer and Sullivan East will both be playing Unicoi County the next time they take the court. The Falcons will host the Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Patriots will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
