Softball Game Preview: Kouts Mustangs & Fillies vs. Washington Township Senators

The Kouts Mustangs & Fillies will take on the Washington Township Senators at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Kouts' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over South Newton. With that win, the Mustangs & Fillies brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Bella Tikalsky was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Florence, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.

Kouts hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Newton struck out six times.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Washington Township made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hammond Central on Tuesday. The Senators blew past the Wolves 17-4.

Washington Township's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.0 runs over those games. As for Kouts, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-7.

Everything went Kouts' way against Washington Township in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Kouts made off with a 17-0 win. Do the Mustangs & Fillies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Senators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
