Four-time defending state champion Martinsburg enters season riding 56-game win streak.

High school football in West Virginia kicks off Sept. 3. In preparation for openers around the Mountain State, we are sizing up the contenders with a look at the state's top 25 teams across all classifications.

Martinsburg and its 56-game win streak is among the big stories heading into the season. The Bulldogs have won four consecutive AAA state titles and haven't lost since 2015. Last year's schedule included victories over teams from the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The program is under new management as Britt Sherman takes over for Dave Walker, who won eight state championships in his last 10 years at Martinsburg.

Cabell Midland scored more points (21) against Martinsburg than any other team last year and may be the biggest threat to end the nation's second-longest win streak. Senior running back Jakob Caudill is back after running for nearly 2,000 yards in 2019
