Softball Recap: Morse Drops Season-High Score on La Jolla

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Morse). They were the clear victors by a 22-8 margin over the La Jolla Vikings on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Reylyn Sakamoto made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Abby Okita was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hailey Truby, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Morse always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .705. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Morse's record now sits at 11-6. As for La Jolla, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morse will welcome Bayfront Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Sharks at the right time seeing as the Sharks are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for La Jolla, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Hoover at 4:00 p.m.
