South Laurel got themselves on the board against Harlan County on Thursday, but Harlan County never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 win over the Black Bears. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cardinals also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Not much got past Will Alsip, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Harlan County off the board. Alsip has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jack Vaughn was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Keaton Creech was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The victory snapped South Laurel's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-4 record. As for Harlan County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11-1.

Coming up, South Laurel will challenge Madison Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Harlan County, they will face off against Harlan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Green Dragons will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Black Bears surely won't give up without a fight.
