Baseball Recap: Central Wins Going Away Against Middletown

Central's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Middletown Islanders with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.

AJ Vega made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jonas Diaz was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Central is undefeated when Diaz posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Maikel Soriano was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

With the win, Central broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-3. As for Middletown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.
