Do-everything cornerback, receiver and returner from Oakland (Calif.) will head North over other Pacific-10 Conference choices.
Marcus Peters said he never got an offer from Cal, the Pacific-10 Conference school right up the East Bay corridor from his Oakland home.
The
McClymonds (Oakland, Calif.) cornerback, receiver and returner extraordinaire was all right with that.
"I wanted to go away to college anyway," said the first-team All-Metro performer.
On Friday he committed to Washington and on Monday announced it to everyone else.
"Everything just seemed perfect to me," said Peters, the San Francisco Chronicle's East Bay Regional Player of the Year who averaged more than 25 yards per catch and scored 15 touchdowns. "The Seattle area reminds me of the Bay Area without being home. The team is on the rise. I liked all the coaches and players. It just felt right."
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior will play cornerback at Washington and coaches there told him he'll return kicks as well.
He had six returns for touchdowns in 2010, leading McClymonds to a 12-0 season and Silver Bowl championship.
He picked the Huskies over Washington State, Oregon State and Arizona State.
"I need to get a little bigger and a little faster," Peters said, who said he's been timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
He plans to join the track and field team in the spring and compete in the 100-meter, 200, 400 and long jump.
