Basketball Recap: Washington County Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Washington County had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They strolled past the Lejeune Devil Pups with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 73-54. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Brandon Carter Jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 78% from the field on his way to 38 points along with seven assists and six steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Phelps, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 23 boards.

Washington County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Loss or not, Lejeune got some senior leadership from Connor Shea and Devon Charles. Shea posted 19 points and five rebounds, while Charles dropped a double-double with 23 points and 13 boards. Charles is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in each of the last 11 games he's played.

Washington County pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points over those games. As for Lejeune, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 17-7 record.

Coming up, Washington County will be playing at home against Voyager Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Voyager Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 games. Lejeune does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
