Basketball Recap: Sandoval Blackhawks vs. Okawville Rockets

Sandoval lost against Okawville back in November of 2015, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Sandoval Blackhawks took a hard 42-27 fall against the Okawville Rockets. While losing is never fun, the Blackhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while the Rockets are ranked 111th).

Sandoval's loss came despite strong showings from Amiya Ray and Harlie Harper. Ray posted 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Harper put up nine points and four steals. Harper continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Okawville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kenley Hackstadt, who to rack up 15 points. What's more, Hackstadt also posted a 63% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynn Rhodes, who earned eight points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Sandoval's record now sits at 19-11. As for Okawville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-11.

Sandoval does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Okawville, they will face off against Carrollton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carrollton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60 points per game this season.
