Football Game Preview: Liberty Patriots vs. Bishop Gorman Gaels

The Liberty Patriots are taking a road trip to square off against the Bishop Gorman Gaels at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Bishop Gorman likes a good challenge.

Liberty is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Las Vegas, who was ranked 20th at the time (Liberty was ranked fourth). Liberty strolled past Las Vegas with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 32-14.

It was another big night for Kaylie Phillips, who threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 40 yards. Her passing game has become a key predictor of Liberty's success: the team is 13-1 when her passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Another passer making a difference was Jianna Reyes, who threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns.

Another reason for the win was Liberty's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Trishelle Tucay was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up four herself.

Meanwhile, Bishop Gorman earned a 20-12 victory over Basic on Monday. The Gaels haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Bishop Gorman, their record is now 11-4.

Liberty couldn't quite finish off Bishop Gorman when the teams last played back in January and fell 34-31. Can Liberty avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
