Jefferson took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They strolled past the Muscatine Muskies with points to spare, taking the game 33-14. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jefferson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Vernon Benda, who threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Lloydson Nyenow Jr was Benda's top target, picking up 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
