There's no place like home for Morenci, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against the Santa Rita Eagles on Tuesday as they made off with a 23-1 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Shaylee Wichmann and Jaliyah Hernandez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Wichmann pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hernandez pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. At bat, Wichmann scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Hernandez scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kieralyn Madrigal, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Malina Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.
Morenci was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They are 9-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win got Morenci back to even at 10-10. As for Santa Rita, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8.
