Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions will be taking part in a tournament against the Steele Canyon Cougars at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Steele Canyon likes a good challenge.

Mountain Ridge will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Sunrise Mountain, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. Mountain Ridge walked away with a 70-63 victory over Sunrise Mountain two weeks ago.

Jaiden Thompson was his usual excellent self, going 13 of 22 on his way to 35 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jagger Cockrell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 boards.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon posted their closest win since December 2nd on Monday. They had just enough and edged Canyon Crest Academy out 54-51.

Mountain Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points per game. As for Steele Canyon, their record is now 9-6.
